TACITA DEAN AWARD

This year we are honoured to have the support of British-born visual artist, Tacita Charlotte Dean CBE, RA. Starting this year, we will be offering an additional Tacita Dean Award from our Grant finalists. The winner is selected by Tacita and the award comes with a cash grant, a mentorship program by Art Incept, and a solo show in 2023!

“I am very honoured to be invited to select an artist for this award. I found the standard within the applications for the Inception Award extremely high and very rewarding. The work was very engaging, most especially in the use of varying mediums and most particularly in the way so many of the artists were adapting materials they had to hand and the level of invention that that brought about.

My decision in the end to go for Shubham Kumar was my attraction to the final work he was making, his transformative use of medium and how he was observing then changing his domestic space through his work. I felt like he is an artist at the beginning of an investigative journey that will soon take him beyond his immediate home environment.

I want to underline the fact that the decision was not easy and that I want to absolutely encourage all the artists to keep working. Awards like this are subjective and non-judgemental, and that one day such a decision will also likely fall in favour of them.”
