ABOUT THE WRITER’S GRANT
Art Incept began with the Inception Grant for Writers to recognise and include the innovative efforts of the young and emerging art writers from all over South Asia. The Grant has been initiated in the memory of Preet Mendiratta.
Preet Mendiratta (1991-2018), was a freelance writer, musician, art aficionado and a dreamer. This initiative aims to support and recognize the talent and creativity of writers in the field of art and culture by providing grants, each worth INR 50,000.

MEET THE WINNERS
Noor Butt
Noor Butt is an artist, writer, and educator based in Karachi, Pakistan. She
received an MA in History of Art from the University of London, Birkbeck
College in 2020, and previously a BFA from the Indus Valley School of Art
and Architecture (IVS) in 2017. Her research interests and creative practice
focuses on archival history, gender, and image-making in the digital age.
Her professional portfolio includes projects and exhibitions with Koel
Gallery, the Karachi Biennale Trust, and Vasl Artists’ Association. As a
writer, her essays have been published in ArtNow Pakistan, the Karachi
Collective, and Hybrid - Interdisciplinary Journal of Art, Design, and
Architecture. Currently, she holds a dual position at IVS, where she is
Programme Coordinator in the Graduate Programme and teaches art history
courses in the Liberal Arts Programme.
Shankar Tripathi
Shankar Tripathi is an arts writer and curator based in New Delhi. Formally
trained in art history from Jamia Millia Islamia, Shankar’s graduate thesis
questioned the various structures of visuality and countervisuality that
informed travel posters and advertising narratives for India during the jet
age of 1940s–1970s.
He has written for Serendipity Arts Festival, The Karachi Collective, ASAP |
art, Critical Collective, The Punch Magazine, DeCenter Magazine, India
Today, among others. He was one of the recipients of the Second Young
Writers Award in Lens Based Practices (2022) given by Critical Collective.
