  • Artist’s Statement

Samir's work focuses on migration as a basic instinct of survival. Drawing in a layered manner, similar to the process of weaving, has always been integral to his artistic practice.
Samir prioritizes spontaneity in lines and forms in his works that engage with themes of land, partition, territory, and identity. Besides this the artist uses materials rooted in Eastern India such as jute, whiting clay, husk and bamboo leaves to trace the region’s river-centric lifestyle.
Samir belongs to West Bengal, he finished his BFA in 2017 from Calcutta University. He completed his MFA in 2020 from the University of Hyderabad.
