Salar Marri

Salar Marri

  • Biography

Born in 1997, Salar hails from Quetta, Pakistan, and graduated from the National College of Arts Lahore in February 2023.

Salar’s work centres around the application of paint and is an enquiry of its material quality. The medium of paint becomes a tool in the transcription of various images onto a surface, preserving certain aspects whilst transforming others.

He compares the reality of everyday life, the reality of skin, objects and people that surround us with the reality of paint, a material equally real, which is not used to 'recreate' an existing image but to channel existing images to form new ones.

Salar’s painterly skills capture the light and shade of forms through traditional methods of oil painting. The figures are objective studies that showcase his poignant gaze capturing the minute intricacies of human condition, and meticulously accentuated by a sombre colour palette that lends an aura of mystique and enigma.
