Moumita Basak

  • Biography

Born in 1996 (West Bengal), Moumita studied painting and completed her Masters from Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata.

Coming from a conservative family with traditional outlook, her decision for higher studies came as a rebellion. She moved to the city where she was on her own and got the opportunity to embrace loneliness. Her days in the hostel, memories and objects in the four-walls of her room inform her works. Moumita explores the idea of solitude as a metaphor through her works in mixed-media. She began to works with local found material and traditional crafts like embroidery during the COVID19 pandemic.

Moumita is part of the Khoj Peers Residency 2022 and was part of the Annual Exhibition of Birla Academy of Art and Culture 2022. She received the Shilpachariya Zainul Abedin Scholarship 2021.
