Born in the Andaman & Nicobar islands, Vishwanath Kuttum did a BFA in painting from Gwalior and then went on to do his Masters in Painting from the College of Art, New Delhi. An artist to watch he recently awarded the prestigious grant from the Elizabeth GreenShields Foundation in 2020. He even received the Khoj Support Grant-2020.
Kuttum's work is inspired by the simple life and customs at his home - the Andamans. While the subject in his works are tribal, the style and technique is very contemporary. Kuttum's process requires immense skill. His medium too is unique and interesting, one that he makes himself – with paraffin and bee wax, double boiled linseed oil, resin, zinc white and natural colour powder.
The artist now works and lives in New Delhi.
