  • Biography

    Born in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh in 1983, Vijaya completed her Masters in Fine Art
    (Sculpture) from Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh Chhattisgarh in 2011.
    Vijay likes to work with both terracotta and clay and incorporates other materials like
    glass, jute, wood and even iron pieces with her primary material. Her works portray the
    need for balance in both social and moral behavior. Many of her works communicate and
    play with the hidden language of brail text. The evolution of her sculpture in brail began
    during the time she lived with visually impaired friends. She was fascinated by the textures
    and the hidden dialogue, one that you can touch and feel but cannot hear.
    Vijaya was awarded the National Award by the Lalit Kala Academy from three states along
    with a series of other prestigious awards including the All India Fine Art & Craft Award in
    Sculpture. She received the sought after National Scholarship for sculpture in 2009 and has
    been part of a number of residencies and camps organized by foundations and the
    government. Although a young artist she has already been part of a number of group
    shows. Vijaya currently works in the National Capital Region.
