Born in 1981 (Kolkata), Santanu studied sculpture at the Government College of Art & Craft in Kolkata, followed by a Masters at MSU Baroda.

Environmental issues that concern humanity are the core concern for Santanu that he hopes to communicate through his work. The unscrupulous use of natural resources, the impact of consumerism, and the mindless exploitation of resources for minor comforts are some of the ideas he expresses through his practice. He works with a host of materials – e-waste, paper, wood, aluminium litho-plate, graphite, steel pins, amongst others.

Through his works, Santanu addresses socio-political developments and their effects on India’s changing ecological and cultural landscape. Utilising a wide range of materials such as paper, acrylic sheet, and graphite, he creates a coherent visual language that conveys his concerns about the rapidly evolving environment.

Santanu was part of the Gurugram Interactive Public Art Project organized by I Am Gurgaon in 2019 and was selected for the Khoj Peers Share Program in 2015. He has also been a part of the Art in Residence at the Embassy of Germany.
