Born in 1994 in Tripura, Debajit Rudra Paul earned his Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Government College of Art and Craft, Agartala (2018) and his Master’s from the University of Kalyani, West Bengal (2020). Drawing from his immediate environment, he creates solitary, minimal visuals that evoke poetic gestures rather than explicit narratives. Vast, empty landscapes—both real and imagined—fuel his contemplative playfulness, often transforming into lines of unwritten poems that guide his paintings and titles.
Debajit’s practice centers on spaces that allow him to dive into his own consciousness, blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination. His works invite viewers into a world of introspection, shaped by observations of everyday life and rendered through subtle, atmospheric landscapes. He has shown widely across national exhibitions and participated in residencies in rural and tribal regions across Tripura and West Bengal. He recently completed a year-long Lalit Kala Academy research scholarship and has exhibited in notable showcases such as The Baroda March (2024) and Gaman at Vis A Vis Studio, Vadodara.
