Ariba Akhlaque

Ariba Akhlaque

Born in Karachi, Pakistan, she studied at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi, with majors in printmaking and new media art.

The concept behind her work is about her personal grief, loss, and time. She attempts to show these emotions through the documentation of objects in different ways which resonate with the language of nostalgia. This symbolises the need to keep the relationship intact with the people that is lost as a result of which one tends to cling to things, spaces, their origin, and their objects also serve to define the everyday lives of which they were a part. The state of bereavement is communicated through her art pieces with the use of objects that hold deep meaning and significance. They have a unique sense of storytelling, depicting how time elapsed but the emotional connotations attached to some objects and spaces remain forever. Her main medium of the practice involves cyanotype and scenography.
