Abdullah Firdousi is a self-taught analog photographer who began his journey five years ago, drawn to the tangible, unpredictable nature of film. Specializing in portraiture, his work goes beyond capturing the physical appearance of his subjects, delving into the unspoken stories and shared experiences that bind us. Each portrait is a reflection of a moment of authenticity, preserving connections that transcend the frame.
Abdullah has expanded his practice by blending analog and digital techniques, incorporating hand-drawn touches and multiple exposure photography. This fusion creates layered narratives that explore themes of time, identity, and perception, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. His work is both poetic and thought-provoking.
While analog photography can be unpredictable and sometimes frustrating, Abdullah embraces the imperfections of the medium. He sees every misstep, overexposed frame, or accidental double exposure as an opportunity for growth. For him, these “failures” are not setbacks but integral steps in his artistic evolution, offering valuable lessons that shape his work.
This residency presents a chance for Abdullah to refine his craft, collaborate with other artists, and further explore the narratives he is passionate about. Through his photography, he aims to capture the fleeting, yet profound, moments that define shared human experiences, creating images that resonate deeply with viewers and linger emotionally.
