We are glad to invite you to our upcoming exhibition, From Point to Infinity: locutions in dot, line, and space, curated by Rahul Kumar. A dot, the simplest element of visual design, represents a location. Its defining characteristic is that it is a point of focused attention. A dot becomes an anchor to provide reference relative to space around it. However, when a dot is increased in size, symmetrically or asymmetrically, it forms a shape. And when two dots at distance are connected using a series of dots adjacent to each other, it forms a line. A dot has no dimension and a line has just one. In both the instances, the play with the sense of space is accentuated. A shape contains space and a line demarcates or divides space. Further, when it comes to working with elements in a design, we have two basic classes to work with. We have positive forms and negative space…what is contained and what is left out. Extending this further, the element of space itself has a multitude of interpretations. The physical or metaphysical, the real or imagined – where is space, where does it begin, and does it have an end?

The proposed show will explore the ideas of basic elements of design in the most simplified way, layered with space making in the architectural context. The works will employ dots or lines to form, expand, question, and re-interpret what space could mean. The group will comprise early-to-mid-career visual artists working in distinct mediums to offer a fresh perspective into the overall theme.
