Manish Kumar’s artistic practice is rooted in the delicate interplay between nostalgic memory and present experience. Whether traveling or simply inhabiting
familiar spaces, he often finds himself reflecting on the past—particularly his childhood. These reflections allow him to reconnect with his evolving sense of self,
bridging who he once was with who he continues to become.
Having grown up in both a city and a village, Manish carries within him two contrasting visions of life. The city was fast-paced, ever-changing, and filled
with constant movement, while the village offered a slower rhythm—simple, quiet, and deeply intertwined with nature. This duality shaped his understanding of
place, time, and belonging. As the years have passed, Manish has witnessed rapid urban development—new buildings, roads, and ways of living—while villages, though also touched by change, have preserved something timeless. Their gentle pace, lush greenery, and profound stillness remain like quiet sanctuaries. For
him, being in these rural spaces is a form of therapy, offering peace of mind and clarity of thought.
When Manish revisits these environments—whether a bustling street that echoes childhood memories or a tranquil village path—he experiences a layered sense of time, where past and present coexist. This intersection of memory and immediacy inspires his creative work, grounding his practice in personal history while remaining open to the unfolding present.
