K Jagjit Singh, although highly inclined towards painting from his early years, got caught up in post war & the post independence euphoria prevailing in the 1950’s, particularly in army families where first choice of young males was to join the Forces; he thus followed suit.
In 1960 when he joined NDA, he was fortunate to peruse his interest & was for three years initiated into painting by professionals from Poona employed by the Academy, as part of overall development of the cadets.
In due course he loved his service as an infantry officer of the Kumaon Regiment enjoying immensely the years mostly spent on the front in the Himalayan Regions, often seeking tenures in the toughest high altitude & remote border areas of Kashmir, Ladakh & Sikkim. He wanted to be amongst Mountains to truly imbibe their enormity. All this time, during service until 1996 & thereafter, he has painted – having the choicest landscape sprawling before him.
In the last decade he has had additional opportunities to repeatedly visit most of the major Art Museums & galleries in Europe to include ones in Paris, Amsterdam, The Hague, Brussels, in Sweden, Switzerland, Prague, Budapest, Milan, Florence, Venice & those in London & other parts of UK including Scotland. Being with the world art at first hand, combined with perusing the written word on art history particularly landscape painting has given him the true perspective of the subject as also understand his position in it. He is also an MBA from FMS, Delhi University & MSc from Madras University.
His work has been shown by galleries in India & abroad & is a part of collections here as also in USA, UK, Paris & other cities. His work is being shown at the India Art Fair 2015 by Art Pilgrim.
