Ishita Abha Dhuriya is a multidisciplinary artist based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Her practice explores the intersections of visual and material culture, deeply informed by her lived experiences as a Dalit woman navigating urban spaces. Ishita holds a Master’s degree in Photography Design (M.Des) from the National Institute of Design, Gujarat, and a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Communication (B.Des) from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi.
Ishita’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and recognized for its powerful engagement with social issues. Her research-based projects focus on themes such as caste hierarchy and intersectional feminism, while also examining the intersections of public healthcare, the pharmaceutical industry, and the broader social structures within India.
Committed to amplifying marginalized voices, Ishita challenges dominant narratives through her practice, employing oral narratives, still images, montages, and experimental visual methodologies. Her work fosters critical dialogue around oppression and social justice, encouraging viewers to confront entrenched societal norms and reconsider perspectives.
Beyond her artistic endeavors, Ishita has contributed to academic projects that investigate the visual and material cultures of subaltern communities, highlighting their complexities and richness. Her practice is a testament to her dedication to promoting equality and advocating for meaningful change within society.
